Adamawa Police Arraign 12 Suspected Thugs Over Weapons, Banned Substances

The Adamawa State Police Command has arraigned 12 suspected thugs before a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola over allegations of criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of prohibited substances, thuggery, and public nuisance.

The defendants were brought before Chief Magistrate Court II, presided over by Magistrate Zainab A. Buba, following investigations by the police into their alleged involvement in activities considered detrimental to public peace and security.

The accused persons were identified as Hassan Aliyu, Umar Sa’ad, Umar Hassan, Aliyu Mohammed, Marwan Mohammed, Mohd Al’amin, Idris Adamu, Saidu Abubakar, Dauda Yuguda, Faruk Idris, Mustapha Adamu, and Husseini Lawan.

According to court proceedings, the suspects were charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of illicit drinks and banned substances, thuggery, and acts constituting public nuisance.

When the First Information Report (FIR) was read and interpreted to them, ten of the defendants pleaded guilty to the charges, while the sixth and twelfth defendants denied the allegations.

Following the pleas, the prosecuting counsel, Inspector Umar Abdullahi, requested an adjournment to enable the prosecution present evidence and commence hearing on the matter.

After considering the application, Magistrate Buba ordered that all the defendants be remanded at a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

The court subsequently adjourned the case until June 22, 2026, for corroboration of evidence and continuation of hearing.

The arraignment comes amid ongoing efforts by the Adamawa State Police Command to tackle thuggery, illicit substance abuse, and other criminal activities across the state as authorities intensify measures aimed at improving public safety and maintaining law and order.
