Adamawa Police Command arrests bank fraudster, recovers 10 ATM cards

Adamawa State Police command arrested Joseph Nwakibe, a native of Nnewi South, Anambra state who specializes in using ATM cards to defraud victims.

The 32 years old Man was arrested on 8/11/2022 by the operatives of the command while on surveillance patrol at the first bank ATM stand along Bank road in Yola North Local Government area.

Statement by the Command public officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said Nwakibe is a resident of Makurdi, Benue state was said to have been invited to Yola by his friend, Obinna Ajima now at large for joint fraudslent activities.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects go around with several expired ATM cards from various banks and await their victims, they usually queue behind customers with pretend as customers and usually offer to assist anyone they perceive is having difficulties in making transactions and in the process take note of the person’s ATM PIN and smartly swap the card with the fake one in their hand.

” The Commissioner of Police CP SK Akande while commending the effort of the operatives in apprehending such criminal-minded elements, equally directed that efforts be intensified to arrest the other suspect who is currently at large.

“The CP further advised members of the public to be careful and refuse any assistance from criminal elements while making bank transactions at ATM points, stating that on no account should they seek help from strangers but rather call on the attention of the bank security men should they need any help.” The statement read
