The Adamawa State Police Command met with critical stakeholders today, September 30, 2024, to address planned protests by unidentified individuals or groups, which could escalate into violence and result in loss of lives and properties. The command emphasized that such protests are unacceptable and may be hijacked by miscreants.
Commissioner of Police Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje cautioned citizens and residents to avoid harmful activities and instead go about their lawful business. He also invited the protesters for a healthy discussion, urging them to follow Nigeria’s protest regulations.
To prevent potential chaos, the police command has established a security perimeter to safeguard against miscreants hijacking the protest. This measure aims to ensure public safety and maintain order during the 64th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

In a similar vein, community surveillance teams in Adamawa have been working to prevent and respond to violence and harmful practices against women and children. Between 2020 and 2022, UNICEF supported the formation of 46 community surveillance teams across four local government areas.
The police command’s proactive approach and community-led initiatives demonstrate a commitment to maintaining peace and security in Adamawa State.
