As part of activities marking the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria ( PSN) week, the Society has destroyed expired Drugs worth N110m in Adamawa state.
The expired drugs destroyed were mopped up from various Pharmaceutical and patent medicine stores across the state.
The speaker ofthe Adamawa state House of Assembly, Mr. Abbas Iya, commended the society for mopping expired drugs from the state.
Represented by the DeputySpeakerr, Mr. Pwamakino Mankendo, flagged of the destructions at woman way a suburb of Yola, the state capital.
The speaker commended the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Adamawa state chapter for not allowing these expired drugsto get back to the marke,t particularly in the rural areas.
He noted that if these drugsgets to the end users it will not only affect the health of the people but also increase the insecurity currently being faced in the state.
Also speaking about the destruction exercise, the Adamawa state NDLEA commandant, Mr. Femi Agbolu said the drugs if allowed in circulation, could be abused.
Stressing that every negative action is influenced by drugs adding that the Drugs being destroyed today can be used as influencers not only to the youths but some politicians who may want to cause problems during elections.
Earlier, the state Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Mr. Ibrahim Talba said the drugs were seized from stands across the state as part of the efforts to get rid of expired and fake drugs from various communities in the state to commemorate the week
He advised members of the public to always check the expiration date on any medical stores they are buying drugs from while he also urged owners of Pharmaceutical patent medicine stores to stop displaying expired drugs on their stands
