Adamawa State Govt Approves N13.9bn Projects for Roads, Schools, Justice Reforms

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved contracts and policy initiatives worth over N13.9 billion aimed at improving road infrastructure, strengthening education, enhancing access to justice, and promoting economic empowerment across the state.

The approvals were made during the 10th Executive Council meeting of 2026 presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House, Yola.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, said the council considered and approved several key projects designed to accelerate development and improve the welfare of residents.

A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of N8.6 billion for the construction of the 18-kilometre Shuwa–Bituku Road. The contract was awarded to Amijab Nigeria Limited and is expected to be completed within ten months. The project is expected to boost transportation and improve access to rural communities in the area.

In the education sector, the council approved N3.1 billion for the construction of perimeter fences in 20 secondary schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment programme. The World Bank-supported initiative is aimed at improving school security and preventing encroachment on school lands.

The Executive Council also ratified the governor’s earlier approval of N347 million for road markings and kerb painting undertaken ahead of the recent visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Adamawa State. The work was executed by H. & H. Nigeria Limited.

Another ratification approved N516 million for the asphalting of the Banquet Hall and Presidential Lodge premises at the Government House. The contract was awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited to upgrade the facilities before the presidential visit.

The council further approved N673 million as compensation for owners of shops demolished to make way for the construction of the Mother and Child Hospital at Target Junction in Jimeta.

As part of efforts to modernise the justice sector, the council approved N322 million for the digitisation of seven Small Claims Courts under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms initiative.

According to Barrister Leneke, the project will introduce electronic filing of cases, virtual court proceedings, and faster resolution of commercial disputes, thereby improving access to justice and creating a more business-friendly environment in the state.

The council also approved the publication of the Business Enabling Reform Action Plan (BERAP) and the 2025 implementation progress report, a key requirement for Adamawa State’s participation in the 2026 SABER programme.

In a move aimed at strengthening the state’s financial position, the Executive Council ratified the partial divestment of Adamawa State Government’s investment in Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc. The state, which acquired over 102 million shares during the administration of former Governor Murtala Nyako, approved the sale of approximately 70 million units.

The council also approved N367 million for the procurement of start-up packs for 1,433 graduates of Alternative Learning Centres under the AGILE programme. The contract was awarded to RS & S Multilinks Investment Nigeria Limited.

The beneficiaries, who received vocational training in tailoring, fashion design, makeup artistry, beauty therapy, and other skills, are expected to use the start-up kits to establish businesses and become economically independent.

The decisions taken at the meeting reflect the Fintiri administration’s continued focus on infrastructure development, education, judicial reforms, and youth empowerment as part of its broader agenda to drive economic growth and social development across Adamawa State.
