In a significant move to alleviate poverty and vulnerability, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has launched the Adamawa State Social Protection Policy. This comprehensive policy aims to reduce poverty by 15% from the current rate of 75% by 2028.
According to Governor Fintiri, “The development of the Adamawa State Social Protection Policy significantly complements ongoing recovery and stabilization efforts by our government, following years of destructive insurgent activities in the State.”
The policy demonstrates the state government’s commitment to combating poverty and vulnerability among residents. It acknowledges the positive impact of existing empowerment and poverty alleviation programs and seeks to enhance the livelihood of poor and vulnerable residents.

The policy aligns with the State Development Plan 2020-2025 and the five objectives of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) directly related to social protection.
Dr. Mary Paninga, Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, also acknowledged the support of UNICEF, the Technical Working Group, and other stakeholders in developing the policy
Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude to UNICEF and other stakeholders for their contributions to the policy’s development. He invited public and private sector actors, as well as development partners, to collaborate on the policy’s implementation.
