Last Saturday, Yola,Adamawa state capital hosted the first Lady, wife to president Muhammadu Buhari,an indigene of Yola South LGA,Her Excellency Hajiya Aisha Buhari in the spirit of unity organised a town hall meeting where all stakeholders of the state irrespective of politics and party affiliation,religion and ethnics background had come together to chart a new course for the purpose of developing the State.
Suffice it to say that many stakeholders who were known to have strong voices in the political history,religion and traditional leaders of the state boycotted the meeting which was tagged “progressive meeting of concern Adamawa indigenes”.
The arising issues began to surface when a senatorial candidate of Adamawa central under the People’s Democracy Party, PDP,Alhaji Murtala Chibado seen on Gotel Television,on a popular program anchors by Sheriff Alhassan called Sunday live,opined that the Saturday suppose Meeting with who is who in the state does not hold the water of uniting the divergent political differences engulfed the state.
According to him the regard he has for Aisha is of inestimable value,a very high regard for her occupying the office of the first Lady but the town hall meeting conveyed by her does not really achieved the intended purpose.
While fielding questions of his view to the meeting which is purposefully organized to bring development and progress the state in all parts, Chibado said,is not a work only for the first Lady,whose political capacity is not huge enough to organized such a meeting.
He lampooned the leadership of PDP in the state who were there without knowing the implication of their ignorance behaviour, accusing them of degrading the standard of the party for a town hall meeting that will not result to what is been said.
Chibado said PDP is in Court challenging the out come of the 2019 presidential election which her husband was declared the winner, occupying the office of the president waiting on the decision of the court.
Barr A T Shehu,the state Chairman of Adamawa PDP and Chief Joel Madaki,an astute member of the PDP,a known name in the politics of PDP were said to have been smuggled inside the hall at the rear door as security men were seen to denied them entrace from the main door,according to him it is a disgrace on the image of the party and any loyalt member of the party
He continue to say that for them to go to that meeting is suggesting something different to the stand of the party at at the national level which is praying to court to swear in Alhaji Atiku Abubakar the perceived winner of the 2019 presidential elections.
A founding Member of All Progressives Congress (APC) who was the pioneer Northeast National Vice Chairman of the party also holds a negative views on the supposed Adamawa town hall meeting organised to unite and set a course for progress of the state by Aisha Buhari, first Lady of the federal republic of Nigeria.
Dr Umar Duhu,a stalwart of the party said the meeting was unnecessary,as according to him if the president’s wife has that welded influence, why does she not prevail on Abubakar Atiku strong opponent of her Husband,President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said Atiku is challenging the 2019 presidential elections as the candidate of People’s Democracy party (PDP) in the court of law and it does not done on her to compel him to drop his case against her husband for the sake of unity and peace?
For me I think the first Lady does not discover the path that will lead to a well unity and progress of the state.
“She is from Adamawa state,an indigene of Yola south, Atiku Abubakar from Adamawa state,a national figure in the political history of Nigeria and a presidential Candidate of PDP who is neck bend on removing her husband in the office using the court process.
It should be done on the first Lady to widely consult in the lane of oneness for Atiku to drop his court case against Buhari in the interest of peace and unity that will bring about development” He said
He continue to say that the meeting was nonsensical and of no effect as major stakeholders of the likes of SGF Boss Mustapha,present and former ministers, notable stakeholders and founding members like him were never in attended.
He revealed that the meeting was basically to further expose to the overt relationship between the organizers, the PDP and Government in waiting in the State.
Also to suggest that the first lady and her team are the type of people that have the syndrome of identifying with any Government in Power (AGIP)
You would recall that Mrs Buhari last Saturday organized a town hall meeting in an effort to unite the people of the state where she made a passionate appeal to the Governor elect under PDP to have an all inclusive government.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) organizing secretary of the state,Alhaji Ahmed Lawal described the town hall meeting as a ” Paper presentation meeting.”
He refuted that the meeting is never having any connection to unity and progress of the state rather than a careful invitation of few people to commend listen to paper presentation by scholars.
“For me when you say I town hall meeting you are referring to a gathering of both stakeholders and grassroots people for everyone to say his or her mind on bordering issues. In that meeting no body was allow to talk, speakers after speaker presented their papers to a boring gathering and left.
” If i may ask what was the out come of the meeting? All I know, seen and heard the meeting ended with a rethoric commends of “let’s unite and live in peace. The following day the media dominate the public with their front page caption of First Lady’s statement of her plans to establish Muhammadu Buhari university with support from Sudan and Qatar government. Is that what you call a town hall meeting? No! No!! This is far from the fact.” Lawal said
He continue to say that his general view of the meeting is a gathering of PDP sympathizers hence she already called for PDP to have an all inconclusive government.
“If she is really a unifying factor woman who want the progress of the state why would she fight APC during the governorships elections? Why wouldn’t she then come and unite the people of Adamawa to vote for PDP or APC? Is it is now that unity is needed in State?
” Let me tell you,with due respect to who she is but is our major problem in Adamawa state, the needless town hall meeting was waste of time and resources because nothing tangible was achieved. ” Ahmed added
Ahmed continue to say that the people he expected in that meeting were not the ones came,it is more of saying that the town hall meeting was a decision of some few people in her kitchen cabinet playing a game that will later suit their political game plans.
Many are of the view that the Town hall meeting is having a more political undergone,a game plans that can be sooner unravel than what was revealed to the people of the state. While some believe Nenne as she is fondly call by many is to work her ways to the politics of Adamawa state where she can be a major decision Maker.
Many other people like the chairman organising committee of the program,Engr Omar Suleiman,the Dokaji Adamawa maintain that the first lady has a great passion of wanting the state to an enviable stage and she will contribute her quater no matter what political pundit will be saying.
“One of the reason of our backwardness as a state is that spirit of fighting a good course ,whatever is good for the common people in the state is what others will be neck bend to fight,especially when it comes to the issue of developing state.
” I want to assure you that the first lady have a good intention for our dear state,what other are saying that the meeting is having a political undertone is just the typical problem we have being having in the state.
“Fighting ourselve over issues is what is drawing us back as a state.” Omar said
