Adamawa Traditional ruler bans girl child hawking

Worried by the nonchalant attitude of some parents in Jimeta District in Yola North local government area of Adamawa state towards girl Child education, the District Head of the area Alh Muhammadu Inuwa Baba Paris has banned female hawking in his domain.

He said the ban become imperative so as to promote girl child education in the area and to protect the girls from fallen victim of sexual abuse and other violence.

Paris who is also Dan Isa Adamawa gave the order while addressing his subjects in Demsawo ward recently expressed dismay over non challant attitude of some parents towards educating their children particularly girls.

The traditional ruler stated that security agencies have been mandated to arrest any girl seen hawking any kind of wares and prosecute the father for allowing his daughter to hawk when she is suppose to be in school.

“we have instructed all security agencies to apprehend any small girl seen hawking, so that her father will be prosecuted for allowing her to hawk”. He added

It was observed that in towns and cities of the state school age female children would be seen in markets, motorparks, recreational centres and other public places hawking all sorts of wares which exposed them to dangers.
