The Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board (UBE) in collaboration with the UNICEF-TSSIP Bauchi field office has begun a five-day training for no fewer than 600 teachers, supervisors, and education managers on Psychosocial support.
Speaking during the training in Mubi South Local Government Area, the lead resource person Hajiya Aishatu Khadiri, Deputy Provost Federal College of Education, Yola, urged the participants to step down the training.
Khadi who was represented by Dr. Abdullahi Usman said the objectives of the training were to developed psychosocial skills and competencies.
“To understand the concepts of stress and trauma, gain capacity to recognize learners with stress and trauma,” he said.
According to her, the concept is not a new method of teaching but an approach that can be merged with existing methods to address social, emotional, and psychological abnormalities to enhance learning.
Malam Ahmed Abass, Education Secretary, Mubi North Local Education Authority (LGEA), advised the participants to take the advantage of the training seriously.
He said that all learners and people in the areas needed such training since everyone once left the place during the peak of the insurgency and compounded now with COVID-19 challenges.
In his remarks, Mr. Joel Jutum, Senior State facilitator for UNICEF Education sector in Adamawa State, appreciated participants for honoring the invitation and coming.
He urged the participants to actively participate throughout the five days of training.
Jutum encouraged participants to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols and work together with other communities’ stakeholders in paying attention to the safety of their learning spaces and the overall security of their school environment.
He said that such training is mostly done to help School Teachers, supervisors, and Education managers from in the areas like Mubi that were once displaced and captured by the Boko Haram insurgence.
Mr. Samuel Peter, a participant said that the training is of grade benefit for them on how to relate well with pupils.
He said that it would help them now to understand the psychological stress and trauma of their pupils and to solve the problem.
Mrs. Justin Delutu, another participant commended the resource persons, said with the training their mode of teaching would be a charge.
According to her, they understood how to counsel the pupils when they were in problem especially with the experience of insurgency area.
