The Chairman, Adamawa State House of Assembly Committee on Sports, Hon Abdullahi Ahmadu has called for maximum support to the Chairman of Adamawa United Football Club by relevant stakeholders for the team.
This according to him is for the team to further improve in its performance in the National Football Professional league (NFPL)
Abdullahi made the call during a visit to the Secretariat of the football Club in Jimeta, explained that successful running of the club requires the contribution of stakeholders.
Ahmadu, who is the Member Representing Lekko Koma in the state Assembly, observed that the progress of the club was hampered by the involvement of people who have no experience in football administration. According to him, Emmanuel Zira has brought to bear his knowledge in sports management leading to professionalism in running the affairs of the club.
While expressing happiness over the new Secretariat of the club, the legislator called for support and prayers to enable Adamawa United to move to the next level.
Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress Comrade Emmanuel Fashion, who paid a similar visit to the secretariat, applauded the effort of the chairman of the club, which has brought the corporate image of the club to the limelight.
He called for adequate funding by the state government to enable the club to continue to be a force to identify with considering the financial standing of other participating clubs in the league.
The state NLC chairman used the opportunity to call on well-to-do in the society to come to the aid of the club by donating buses, Jersey, sporting equipment, and cash, which according to him will enhance the development of sports in the state.
Responding in an interview, the Chairman, Adamawa United Football Club, Emmanuel Zira noted with delight the visit by prominent leaders in the state adding that the House Committee on Sports is playing a supervisory role in the activities of the club.
He said Adamawa United is progressing at a more acceptable level and expressed disappointment that the team has been a liability to the state government in the past due to poor management.
He noted that the club intends to recruit talented players and operate as a profit-making body because football in recent times has become a business venture.
He lamented playing its home matches in Gombe is depriving the team of home support by fans as well as denying government revenue.
He stressed that only Adamawa United Football Club representing the state in the professional league and urged other critical stakeholders in the sector to be United for the club to forge ahead.
