The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Adamawa State chapter, has expresses deep gratitude to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for the prompt response to the communiqué it issued on the need to arrest the downward spiral in the sports sector in the state.
SWAN has last week urged governor Fintiri to sack the Emmanuel Zira led Adamawa United football club over shoddy performance and also pleaded with the governor to reinvent sports by completing the stadium project started more than a decade ago.
The governor’s sack of the Zira leadership was believed to be a response to the SWAN call for action.
A statement signed by Ephraim Okpanachi, secretary of SWAN in the state lauded the governor for his prompt response to their plea.
“The specific fresh step of scrutinizing Adamawa United, with the aim of proper stock taking of happenings at the club, as part of measures to reposition the club as observed by SWAN is greatly commended.
“Your prompt response, gives us great hope, that other issues of funding, infrastructure and revival of the sporting events raised in the communiqué, will also receive prompt attention.
“Thank you for your uncommon commitment to the development of Adamawa,” the statement said.
