Adamu Atiku Abubakar Bids Farewell to PDP: “My Journey with the Party Ends Here”

Hon. Adamu Atiku Abubakar, the eldest son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and until recently the Adamawa State Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the ward level.

In a resignation letter dated March 4, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Jada 1 Ward, Jada Local Government Area, Adamu Atiku Abubakar announced his exit from the party with immediate effect.

The letter, which has been received and acknowledged by the ward leadership, expresses deep gratitude for the opportunities and support he received during his tenure as a party member.

“I hereby formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Jada 1 Ward,” the letter reads. “I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to have served and the support extended to me by the ward leadership and members over the years.”

Adamu Atiku further emphasized his appreciation in a personal statement: “My journey with the People’s Democratic Party ends here. I sincerely thank the party for the opportunities and experiences I was privileged to have during my time as a member. I remain grateful for the platform it provided and wish the party the very best in its future endeavors.”

The resignation comes in the wake of significant political shifts in Adamawa State.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in late February 2026, along with most members of his cabinet.

Adamu Atiku notably declined to follow suit, opting instead to step down from his commissioner position on March 2, 2026, after “deep personal reflection and careful consideration.”

He served in the role for an extended period, contributing to infrastructure and energy development initiatives in the state.

The move underscores his commitment to personal and political principles amid the changing landscape in Adamawa politics. Sources close to him suggest the decision aligns with loyalty to core values and family political affiliations, while he continues to enjoy strong support from his Jada community.

Adamu Atiku Abubakar thanked the people of Jada for their steadfast encouragement throughout his public service and expressed optimism about future contributions to the state’s development outside the PDP framework.

This development adds another layer to the evolving political dynamics in Adamawa ahead of future elections, as key figures reposition themselves in the post-defection era.
