In a dramatic move to consolidate opposition forces, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on prominent political figures, including Labour Party’s Peter Obi, SDP’s Nasir El-Rufai, and PDP’s Senator Aminu Tambuwal, to abandon their current political parties and fully align with the ADC. The party has been chosen as the coalition’s platform, sidelining the yet-to-be-registered All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
The resolution was announced by Bolaji Abdullahi, the coalition’s National Publicity Secretary, following a high-profile meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
The gathering included key figures such as ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Abdullahi emphasized the coalition’s decision to abandon the ADA, stating, “The Coalition has rested everything concerning the ADA. That means they are not interested in the registration or otherwise of the association.”

He further revealed that all presidential aspirants within the coalition have committed to supporting the winner of the ADC’s primary election, signaling a unified front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In preparation for upcoming off-cycle governorship elections, Abdullahi disclosed that the ADC’s National Working Committee (NWC) will soon announce dates for primary elections in Osun and Ekiti. This strategic move underscores the coalition’s intent to strengthen its foothold in key states.
The ADC’s bold call to high-profile opposition leaders marks a significant step toward reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape, as the party positions itself as the primary platform for opposition unity. Whether Obi, El-Rufai, Tambuwal, and others will heed the call remains to be seen, but the coalition’s resolve to consolidate power under the ADC banner sets the stage for a fierce political battle in the coming months.
