ADC Faction Files Suit Challenging Emergence of Interim Executives

Three members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have filed a suit challenging the interim leadership of the party led by former Senate President David Mark before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The plaintiffs, Adeyemi Emmanuel, Ayodeji Tolu, and Haruna Ismaila, are asking the court to determine the legality of the interim leadership of the ADC. They claim that the interim executives were appointed by an illegal meeting organized by a former national chairman.

The plaintiffs are seeking several reliefs, including a declaration that the appointment of Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, and Abdullahi as interim national chairman, national secretary, and national publicity secretary, respectively, is “unconstitutional, unlawful, null, and void.”

They also prayed the court for an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the interim executives.

The ADC was unveiled on June 2 as a platform to rally votes against President Bola Tinubu in the next elections, with prominent opposition politicians such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Nasir el-Rufai at the forefront of the campaign.

The development has generated reactions across the country, with the suit filed by the ADC members adding to the controversy surrounding the party’s leadership.
