In a significant development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Adamawa State Chapter has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria.
During a world press conference held on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 5 PM in Yola, Comrade Shehu Yohanna, the State Chairman of the ADC, welcomed members of the Nigeria National Opposition Coalition who recently adopted the ADC as their political platform.
Addressing journalists, party members, and supporters, Comrade Yohanna emphasized the ADC’s pivotal role in shaping the future of Adamawa State and Nigeria at large.

“Nigeria is at a critical juncture in its democratic journey,” he stated, highlighting the party’s resolve to provide a viable alternative to the current political establishment.
He extended a warm welcome to the coalition members, describing their decision to join the ADC as a testament to the party’s growing influence and relevance in Nigerian politics.
The press conference, attended by key party figures including His Excellency Alh. Mohammed Usman Shuwa, the ADC’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Adamawa, underscored the unity and strength of the party’s leadership.
Yohanna dispelled rumors of internal discord, affirming that the current leadership structure remains intact and legitimate, with no resignations or dissolutions. “The tenure of the current chairman and his EXCO will expire in December 2026. Until then, the ADC leadership in Adamawa State remains united, strong, and committed to the ideals of the party,” he declared.
The ADC’s vision, as articulated by Yohanna, centers on building a Nigeria where every citizen has access to opportunities, resources, and services to realize their full potential.

The party is guided by principles of democracy, transparency, and accountability, with a focus on creating an inclusive and prosperous society. To this end, Yohanna called on prospective members to respect the party’s constitution and established leadership structure, emphasizing that the ADC is open to collaborating with those who share its vision but within the framework of its rules.
Looking ahead, the ADC Adamawa Chapter is gearing up for the forthcoming bye-elections in the Ganye Local Government Area, scheduled for August 2025. Yohanna announced that party primaries for the bye-election will take place between July 14 and 17, 2025, in line with INEC guidelines. He urged aspirants and delegates to prepare actively for the process, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects at the polls.
