The African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday officially commissioned its new national headquarters in the heart of Abuja, an imposing edifice that previously served as the 2023 presidential campaign office of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

The building, located in the highbrow Maitama district, was formally unveiled by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, who described the event as “a defining moment and a bold statement of purpose” for the ADC.

Speaking during the inauguration, Senator Mark said the acquisition of a permanent national secretariat marks the end of the party’s nomadic phase and the beginning of a new era of disciplined, people-centred politics.

“We gather here not merely to unveil a building, but to unveil a new chapter; a bold statement of purpose and commitment to democracy and service to our country,” Mark declared.

“This is a physical testament to our collective resolve to build a greater nation. When we began this journey, many doubted us, while some questioned our motives. But today we make it clear that this ADC coalition is a historic child of necessity inspired by the people’s desire for good governance, greater accountability and a stronger democracy.”

He added: “From this moment forward, this complex becomes the operational centre of our political movement. Here, strategies will be shaped, ideas will be refined, and the next generation of leaders will emerge.”

Senator Mark stressed that the party’s activities going forward would be anchored on “Character, Courage, Competence, Discipline and Integrity,” declaring: “This is not business as usual.”

Clearing the air on the building’s previous occupancy, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, told journalists that the party lawfully rented the property after Atiku Abubakar’s campaign organisation vacated it at the expiration of its tenancy.

The well-attended ceremony had in attendance top party chieftains including:

National Secretary, Alhaji Rauf Aregbesola (former Governor of Osun State and ex-Minister of Interior), Former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. David Babachir Lawal  and Other members of the National Working Committee and state chairmen

With the new secretariat now operational, the ADC appears poised to intensify its preparations for the 2027 general elections, positioning itself as a formidable third-force platform built on the merger of several legacy political movements and high-profile defections in recent years.

The unveiling comes amid growing speculation that the party is attracting more heavyweight politicians disillusioned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
