House of Assembly Standing Committee on Infrastructure and Community Development of the Adamawa State House of Assembly has broken a record to be the first committee to commence discharging its functions in earnest.
The committee headed by the Member Representing Ganye Constituency, Hon. Alhassan Hammajoda, was the first standing committee out of over 20 committees of the 7th Assembly to reach out to the executive arm of government as part its constitutional duty.
So far, the committee was able to visit Ministry of Infrastructure and Community Development, Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP2) and Community and Social Development Agency yesterday.
It was adequately briefed on the achievements and challenges confronting the organisations, and pledged to establish synergy most especially on issues that require legislative backing that in return, would be beneficial to the state and its citizens.
More so, it was as a result of the outing that Hon. Ganye’s committee uncovered that there are a lot of abandoned projects on rural roads and electrification awarded by the past governments for execution, but were dumped by the contractors after collecting about 70 to 80 of their contract sum.
However, the committee vowed to descend on the run away contractors to compel them complete connecting our communities with power supply and rehabilitate their roads to ease transportation of goods and services or else risk incuring the wrath of the assembly.
This particular action by this committee may serve as a wake up call to other committees that are yet to start functioning even when there are issues to be addressed in their assigned areas of coverage.
