Moved by the plight of pensioners while awaiting their benefits, the Chairman Adamawa State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Public Service and Electoral Matters and Member Representing Guyuk Constituency in the house, Hon. Adawawa Donglock, has promised to lobby for prompt payment of pensions and other entitlements to the retirees.
According to him, his committee has taken it upon itself to lobby for regular payment of pensions to the senior citizens so as to appreciate them for giving their productive years to the service of the state, and with a view to alleviating their suffering.
Hon. Donglock, who made the promise in a chat with newsmen, said his committee will work hard to help the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, put smile on the faces of the pensioners, saying that Fintiri had during his campaign, promised to ensure timely payment of the entitlements and his committee will assist him to fulfill it.
He stated that his committee has 6 parastatals under it: Office of the Head of Service, Civil Service Commission (CSC), Permanent Secretary Establishment, Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC). Pension Board and Muslims/Christian Welfare Boards.
The Deputy Chief Whip of Assembly pledged his readiness towards ensuring that all the parastatals under him are being coordinated to function effectively.
On the recent confirmation by the house for the appointment of Non Ex-Officio of Judicial Service Commission(JSC), the chairman declared that there was nothing like JSC on the ground because due process was not followed by the past administration to this effect.
He faulted the past administration for swearing into office those appointed to man the office without house approval, saying that on its part, the past assembly used the word”ratification ” instead of “confirmation” even after those appointed were sworn in and knew clearly that there was a mistake.
According to him, sections 197 and 198,of the 1999, Constitution as amended made a clear provision on how appointments for such bodies will be made, explaining that there must be approval by the house before swearing in and not swearing in before house approval by the house.
Hon. Adawawa Donglock, further commended Gov Fintiri for observing Federal Character Commission in the appointment of the non ex-officio of the commission.
