A lawmaker in the Adamawa State House of Assembly (ADHA) representing Mubi North constituency,Barr Sani Shehu Muhammed had sponsored two bills that will serve as a law to establish adminstrstion of criminal justice and judiciary law.
The bills which were considered and adopted by ADHA after their presentation on the floor of the house by the chairmen on justice and judiciary and Education respectively.
Presenting the report Barrister Sani Shehu said the committee according to its findings after conducting public hearing and inputs from stakeholders reveal that the extant procedural law regulating administration of criminal justice in the state is the criminal procedure code enacted in nineteen sixteen.
He added that the provision in the procedure code is either inadequate or absolute, short of providing smooth, effective and efficient administration criminal justice in the state.
The committee also recommended that the state commissioner of police, controller of prisons and heads of every agency authorized by law to make arrest in respect of state offence shall remit quarterly to the Attorney General of the state.
While that a law to regulate the establishment and Management of Private Schools was presented by the sponsor of the bill who double as chairman house committee on education Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Yapak of Verre Constituency.
After the presentation of the committee report and thorough deliberation on the bills by the lawmakers speaker Kabiru Mijinyawa who Presided over the plenary session has referred the two bills to majority leader of the house to schedule for third reading during any convenient legislative day.
Meanwhile the house has also received a request letter from the Executive arm seeking for its approval to source for over two hundred and twenty million from zenith bank PLC to finance the state government counterpart contribution for the Implementation of the EU- UNICEF supported Rural water supply and sanitation program in two local government areas of the state.
Speaker Kabiru Mijinyawa who presided over the plenary referred the letter to house standing committee on water resources for scrutiny and report back to the house money next week for further action.
