The Adamawa state university (ADSU) Mubi deepens as the chapter of the Academic Staff Union of the University (ASUU) led by it’s Chairman insist that for the university to grow up to a level of being a hub of learning the present Vice Chancellor, Dr Moses Zaruwa has to be removed as he can not govern well the affairs of the University.
You could recalled that on Friday, November 24, the entire leadership of ADSU Unionists, under the chairmanship of Mallam Abubakar Song paid a courtesy visit to Governor Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow where they called on the immediate removal of Dr Zaruwa as the sitting VC
Song in a telephone interview with Tgnews.com correspondence some few days after their courtesy call to the Governor regarded Moses as “an unfortunate element VC” the school ever produced,questioning the level of his educational exposure and attainment.
According to him their call is necessary at this time that the VC succeeded on destroying the morals of all the university workers with his non Chalant attitude and childishness behavior.
He further said that since the inception of Moses as the VC nothing significant to the development of the university has being achieve and the school which was rating high in terms of academic performance before is now at the verge of collapse.
“Your excellency we want you to safe this great institution which was conceived by past administration to have a vision to grow into a world class standard university.
“For your information a lot of good lecturers who earned their PhDs from other good university around the world with excellent reputation have left the university because of the negative attitude and lack of good leadership qualities of the VC.” He said
Song extended their call to all the university stakeholders and stakeholders Of Education in the state to understand that it not a vendetta fight against Zaruwa but it’s a fight against enemies Of Education in the state hence the need for every hand to be on deck.
“I bet you if the VC will be removed the University will take a new shape. The best thing for the university Dr Zaruwa to resign as the VC.” He added
had taken their campaign of calumny to the Governor seeking to remove the Vice Chancellor from Office for reasons best known only to them.
While reacting to the call for the VC’s removal, Mr. Zakari said: “Once you are a member of ADSU union, you are co-opted and your mouth is stuffed with rottenness and corruption that you cannot opt out easily due to the influence of the untouchable cabals within ADSU community. The ADSU ASUU is now a den of corruption led by a gang of rascals.
“If the entire University is being cleansed, what of the members of the Academic Staff, most of whose crimes have no comparison in any Nigerian university!! Should plagiarism and exam malpractice go unpunished in ADSU?
“It is a reality, which is a regular and systemic practice. Nobody should pull the wool over the eyes of ADSU Community or the larger Adamawa society. Ganging up to intimidate or threaten the Vice Chancellor is a shame.’’
Mr. Zakari Mohammed added that those union members crying wolf over the appointment of the Vice Chancellor turn blind eyes to the recent appointment of 13 Vice Chancellors of Federal Universities by President Mohammadu Buhari. He asked “don’t these universities have ASUU branches? Are they not having industrial peace in their campuses? Why should ADSU be different?
“Unfortunately, people that have no business in ADSU are the ones complaining of due process. Recently, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) was quoted to have said that “the basic requirement for teaching staff in a University community is Ph.D. Most of those crying blue murder over the appointment of the VC have not upgraded their certificates to meet this basic NUC requirement up till date. Yet, they have the temerity and shamelessness to accuse their academic superiors. The core of the union’s Exco is made up of individuals whose students have bagged Ph. Ds, while they remain frustrated with ineptitude, ingratitude, and malice.
“In ADSU, we refer to them as dead woods that hide under the canopy of the union to vent their anger on others. If the teachers of our kids lack character, shouldn’t we be concerned with what they teach our kids?”
While disagreeing with the visit of ADSU ASUU to Governor Bindow and their cluelessness on the way forward for the university, especially their stance on the VC, Mr. Zakari demands that the State Government should set up a special panel to review the problems of ADSU, including the qualifications of lecturers and how they were employed in the university. He also requested the Bindow administration to implement all the major decisions taken by the council, especially disciplinary cases that border on plagiarism, exam malpractice, financial malfeasance, corruption or misappropriation of funds. “Let the rot in ADSU be cleared once and for all to enable the young citadel of learning have a new lease of life,” he said finally.
For calling on Governor Mohammed Umar Jibrilla to remove the Vice Chancellor, Adamawa State University (ADSU), Dr. Moses Z. Zaruwa, the Chairman of ADSU Integrity Forum, Mr. Mohammed Zakari, has described the ADSU chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as a worthless body that is populated by rascals and scavengers and knows nothing but vengeance or vendetta. He lashed out at the ASUU Exco members for their selfish action, calling them rogues who have only their selfish interest at heart, not that of the young university.
Zakari described the current Exco as the most corrupt Nigerians that ever held union leadership, adding that lecturers that are not qualified to be in Adamawa State University today are the ones championing the removal of the Vice Chancellor due to their unbridled corrupt tendencies. He wondered how these elements were allowed audience with Governor Bindow without the prior knowledge of the Governing Council or University Authorities. He advised the Government House Protocol Office to desist from allowing every Tom, Dick and Harry, with no genuine cause, to waste His Excellency’s precious time in the heat of rebranding the state against lazy and incompetent individuals who have nothing significant to offer the state.
Specifically, Mr. Zakari called some of the unionists “rascals and scavengers.” He noted that an Exco that is made up of academic misfits is not worthy of any leadership, not to mention bringing forth anything to better the lot of ADSU rather than to display their idiocy in public and often ridicule themselves.
He added that the reason some of the union members would never like the Vice Chancellor is the fact that he foiled their acts of corruption and plugged all leakages that hitherto allowed them unlimited access to university funds that they either mismanaged or misappropriated. Fortunately, several of the so-called unionists have cases to answer in the on-going investigations over overpaid salaries to some staff, ghost workers, contracts partly paid but never executed, embezzlement of funds from the Abuja Liaison office, among others. The recent dismissal of their thinking machine and strategist, Dr. Itodo John Itodo, for examination malpractice by the Governing Council of the University was a bitter pill which the union found difficult to swallow, hence the onslaught on the Vice Chancellor whom they feel should have covered their crimes, but instead exposed them for necessary disciplinary action by the Governing Council.
Zakari accused the ADSU ASUU of churning out outright lies, misconceptions and mischievous innuendos against the person of the Vice Chancellor because their visit to the Governor was orchestrated by the corrupt elements amongst them that were recently shown the way out of the University or may be facing the wrath of state laws. The cases of examination malpractice by some of them which the Governing Council refused to ignore or pardon added to the faults of the Vice Chancellor that the academic misfits in the union see as unpardonable.
