Gunmen believed to be bandits on Sunday invaded Baptist Church, killing two residents and abducting many in Kakau Daji of Chikun Kaduna Local Government.

It was gathered that the attackers surrounded the church and began shooting sporadically during Sunday service.

Sources said, the attackers who came in large numbers, surrounded the church and started shooting sporadically during worshiping hours.

” Two people were killed on the spot while the bandits abducted many others,” the source said.

The President of the Kaduna Baptist Convention, Rev. Ishaya Jangado, confirmed the incident, saying the number of worshippers abducted by gunmen were yet to be ascertained.

“The incident occurred this morning but we don’t know the exact number of people that were kidnapped yet,” he added.

Chikun LGA is among Local Government areas where telecom services were shut down. Also, motorcycles were banned as part of strategies to curb banditry and kidnapping.

On his part, the Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joseph Hayab, described the latest attack as “another sad story of how deteriorating our insecurity has become.”

Hayab lamented that “citizens are being killed like chickens with only press statements as consolation.”

He said, “These evil people have been troubling us for too long.

“I condole with the families of the Baptist denomination and Kaduna Christians for these losses and urge our security agencies to separate war against enemies of Nigerians from politics. No one knows who will be the next target.”

The police spokesman in the state, Mohammad Jalige, could not be reached as at press time.
