Ministries, Departments and Agencies in Sokoto State wants UNICEF to intervene through advocacy to the state governor for the release of funds to execute projects earmarked in the budget.
This was part of the area of concern by participants at the end of a two day Capacity Development Workshop on Social Protection and 2021 Work Plan Development held in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
In their separate presentation, Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board, revealed that, under the board, 10, 120 poor children benefited from the Conditional Cash Transfer from the commencement of the programme in the state and as well planned to register more beneficiaries this year to 16,000 children.
The Sokoto State Contributory Healthcare Management Scheme, says it had recieved over 518 million naira from the Federal Government Basic Healthcare Funds through National Health Insurance Scheme targeting 51,869 poor communities to benefit this year while over 5,000 have already registerd.
Likewise, the State Ministry of Information, informed the forum that, the ministry planned to produce montly bulleting on Social Protection as well as engage on public sensitization and enlightment through mass media and mobile van on Social Protection for the 2021.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the State, disclosed that, the agency as part of its mandate on Social Protection had constructed over 200 Primary and Secondary Schools from 2019 to date, renovate 67 Healthcare centers and also planned to improve on schools security by fencing and improvement of toilets.
The State Zakat and Endowment Commission, explains that, the Commission target 30,000 Psychathric pateins for treatment this year, adding that, the Commission had engage in old age feeding, clothing and assistance to poor families of newborn twince and those affected by various disaster.
He said, the Commission had assisted over 10,000 poor with food and every year, over 100,000 Orphans are being assisted with sallah cloths in seven districts in the state.
The Ministry of Women Affairs, said the Ministry this year planned to sensitized over 2000 women affected by Hiv/Aids and Leprocy on Social Protection and Safety network.
UNICEF Social Protection Specialist, Dr. Danjuma Al-Mustapha, recommends release of funds as a vital key to exercute projects as well as advocacy makes impact.
