A former Adamawa Central Senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ahmed Musa has petitioned the State Commissioner of Police over alleged criminal assault and threat to life meted to him by Senator Abdul-Aziz Nyako.
Both Nyako and Speaker recently contested for Adamawa central senatorial ticket of the party in which Nyako emerged victorious.
In a petition made available to newsmen in Yola Wednesday, Abdullahi Musa lamented that the series of events which started like verbal attack snowballed into subtle threats to his life and his followers.
“I’m curious and more concerned about breeding endangered species of politicians in the likes of Abdul-Aziz Nyako who lack the basic tenets of modern Democratic practice for tolerance and accommodation”, he stressed.
He accused Senator Nyako for criminal assault and intimidation which occurred on the 20th of August during the visit of Senator Kassim Ibrahim Shettima, the APC Vice Presidential Candidate.
According to Ahmed, “I was at the Yola International Airport as a stakeholder to receive Shettima where Abdul-Aziz Nyako dramatically assaulted me and my supporters with his political thugs to the utter dismay of other dignitaries.
“This disdainful and shameful trajectory is a direct assault on my person and supporters during the APC primary election, where he instructed his thugs to beat up my agents at the collation centre, leading to hospitalization of Alhaji Uba-Dan Arewa and others”, he averred.
He stressed further that “the fact that I democratically challenged Sen Nyako during the last Senatorial primary contest doesn’t give him the right to become a demagogue and a narcissist to maim and kill for personal reasons”.
While appealing to the law enforcement agencies to protect citizens against abuse of their fundamental human rights, he wondered why someone could stultify the intent of the law abiding citizens from enjoying this fundamental provision in a democratic setting.
“This display of mundane military mentality is unacceptable in civilized world more so in a young democracy of Nigeria”, he lamented.
Abdullahi Ahmed Musa pointed out that, in the spirit of the electoral act that prohibit thuggery and violence, appreciate action should be taken against this undemocratic and uncultured behaviour no matter who the person is.
But responding to the allegations, the Media aide to senator Abdulaziz Nyako, Awwal Usman said his principal can’t even hurt a fly let alone issue death threats to anyone.
He counsels Abdullahi Musa to instead of extending unfounded belligerence towards the senator to rather shift such aggression to the party and airport security who insisted that protocols should be adhered to.
“Our principal has no hand in the travails of Speaker who acted against the established protocols of the airport and caused unnecessary embarasemnt to himself and the party.
“The truth of the matter is that the APC has assigned Nyako and four others to recieve the vice presidential candidate who was in town for a wedding ceremony.
“It is a known rule all over the world that people are not allowed to go close to the airport tarmac which in the first place made the party to select Nyako as well as four others to receive Shettima at the tarmac.
“The arrangement was made in such a way that after he received the presidential running mate, Nyako will introduce all the personalities that lined up to receive the politician. But against all odds, Speaker refused to obey that simple instruction leading to the fracas.
“I advise him to redirect his angst and bitterness to the party for selecting five people and also the airport security for insisting that protocols must be obeyed and leave Nyako alone,” he said.
