In a moment that blended melody with mercy, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State stunned audiences at the state’s Unity Concert on Saturday, announcing a cascade of life-altering support for Chris Vic, the visually impaired gospel sensation whose soul-stirring performance lit up the night.
The Eket-born artist, blind since birth yet a beacon of unyielding praise, was thrust into the spotlight not just for his vocals but for a governor’s vow to rewrite his future—one plot of land, one four-bedroom duplex, one fully equipped music studio, and a perpetual monthly lifeline at a time.
The announcement, delivered amid thunderous applause at the event, underscores Eno’s ARISE Agenda, a blueprint for inclusive governance that has seen the state pour resources into the vulnerable amid Nigeria’s economic headwinds.
“I have directed the Commissioner for Lands to allocate a plot of land in Uyo to Chris Vic, and I will sign the Certificate of Occupancy next week,” Eno declared, his voice carrying the weight of pastoral compassion—he’s a pastor by calling, after all.
“We will also build him a four-bedroom flat and commit ₦100 million to set up his music studio. This is separate from the cost of the land and the house. In addition, as long as I remain Governor, he will receive a monthly allowance of ₦1 million.”
The gesture, clocking in at over ₦100 million upfront plus ongoing support potentially spanning years, isn’t mere charity; it’s a testament to Vic’s raw talent and resilience.
The 20-something singer, who has risen from local church stages to viral fame with tracks blending Afro-gospel flair and heartfelt testimony, performed hits that had the crowd swaying in unity. His story—overcoming visual impairment to channel “praise in every situation”—resonated deeply, prompting Eno to frame the gifts as divine reminder.
“Let this remind us that even in difficult moments, God is still good,” the governor added. “Chris Vic shows us that praise is possible in every situation. I also want him, and all persons with disabilities, to know that this government cares.”
This isn’t Eno’s first rodeo in uplifting the arts or the underserved; earlier this year, he unveiled a ₦100 million creative fund to nurture talents across the state, positioning Akwa Ibom as a budding cultural hub. Yet Vic’s package stands out for its personal touch, echoing similar acts like the furnished bungalow gifted to a late Nollywood star’s family last year.
For Vic, it’s more than bricks and naira—it’s validation that his ministry, forged in adversity, will echo louder, potentially launching him onto national stages.
