The Provost of Adamawa state College of Nursing Yola, Mrs Lami Aminu has distanced herself from an uproar of a statement written by Idris Hamza on behalf of Muslim parents calling the attention of MSSN, IMAN, JIBWIS, Muslim Council, MURIC and others to intervene over what he described “sanctioning against the use of Himar by Muslim female students.”
He accused Lami to have stationed at the gate of the college labeled as “intolerable Himar of hypocrisy”.
When contacted however, the Provost said the management of the school sat and deliberated over the use of black Himar other the white approved by many colleges of nursing for Muslim students.
She said ; “there is always a dress code for our students, we sat at the management meeting and agreed for the use of white Himar to meet the top white general uniform.
“We did that meeting with many of the officials of all the Muslims students Unions. We are not here to disdain any religion, besides the school is not for any religion. It is for academic excellence. “Lami said
The issue has degenerated to an uproar as religious pundits began to pass sentiments and sensational comments.
She continued to say that in every school there is a specific dress code and most unifiable accepted, I will be the last person to hate any body from practicing his or her religion properly. We are only saying that the right thing should be done on our dress code.
“There has been a white Himar or Hijab being used in the school , black Himar is not what we approved. As you can see it, anybody wearing black himar on white nobody can differentiate them among the students. ” she added
You would recall that Idris wrote a long epistle that attracted many comments on both the conventional medium and social media asserted that :
“It is getting too much and we as parents and Muslim faithful are pushed too hard to the wall with our children as students, based on the faith they profess, are being treated rather unfairly with disdain, with the anti academic progress and anti Islamic régime in the college of nursing and midwifery Yola, Adamawa state.
“Rather than maintain the distinction grades the college consistently distinguished itself with certified morality, achieved during the tenure of Malam Abubakar Sadique Salihu Gurin as the Provost, the current gold-plated teeth provost, as though just returning from hajj pilgrimage, has since embarked on anti academic success by diverting herself to waging meaningless war against Muslim students and Islam.
“An eyewitness account has it that the Provost herself was spotted right at the gate of the college confiscating himar from the Muslim female students.
“The provost of the College, Lami Aminu, given as the name, was said to have addressed some of the Muslim instructors to discourage the female students of the post basic nursing programmes run by the FMC Yola, the present Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, or else the TH should withdraw the programme from, according to her, “my college”. Does Lami have a college of nursing or has it been privatised and she has the resources to buy the entire shares simply to dictate to the students, purely anti Islamic rules?
“Why always Lami Aminu and the College of nursing Yola? It is either sex scandals or examination malpractices rocking the academic health institution or the covert and overt anti Islamic agenda schemed to weed the Muslim students out of the college.
“We are not unaware of how the college provost recently manipulated to kill the rape case involving her promiscuous son she made a lecturer in the college, which occurred after her efforts to smuggle the payments of college fees into a bank owned by the Christian Association of Nigeria was met with stiff resistance.
“When we complaint, the Provost dog of media war will then issue a blackmail threat that the Provost is so challenged because she is a Christian and that her attacks invariably imply the attack on the Adamawa Governor by Muslims, even though the governor is himself a Muslim.
“We have had it enough of the humiliation and therefore, we are calling on the authorities concerned and the leadership of faith based organisations, namely, the MSSN, IMAN, JIBWIS, Muslim Council and MURIC among others to intervene, to establish whether or not the Provost has the constitutional right to forbid the use of human by Muslim women in the college of nursing she called her institution.”
The question is how can academic excellence be encouraged in a school that suppose to be a citadel of learning not an environment for denying one to exercise the right to freedom of religion, conscience, and belief?
