APC Aspirants Protest Imposition of House of Reps Candidate in Adamawa

Aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Southern Senatorial Zone of Adamawa State have staged a peaceful protest against the alleged imposition of a candidate for the Demsa, Numan, and Lamurde Federal Constituency.

The demonstration took place on Thursday in Numan, where dozens of aspirants, party members, and supporters gathered at the APC Zonal Secretariat, carrying placards with messages such as “No to Imposition,” “Allow Free Primaries,” and “Let the People Decide.”

In a statement signed by Clement Hebron Pwammaddi on behalf of the aggrieved aspirants, the group said the protest was triggered by reports that Mr. Kwamoti Laori had been selected as the candidate without consultation or a primary election.

The aspirants stressed that they were not opposed to any individual but to a process that sidelines qualified aspirants and disregards the wishes of party members at the grassroots.

“Democracy within the party must be respected,” the statement said. “We have invested time and resources in mobilising support across the three local government areas and deserve a level playing field.”

The protesters called on the state and national leadership of the APC to cancel any imposed list and conduct a transparent primary election to allow party members to choose their candidate.

They reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and warned that imposition weakens the party and hands an advantage to the opposition.

The protest ended peacefully, with the aspirants pledging to pursue their demand through constitutional channels within the party.
