APC nat’l convention: I stepped down for Senator Kyari not comrade Salihu-Sunny

In an effort to make the records straight as earlier reported in some quarters of the media, Chief Sunny Sylvester Moniedafe in a statement lauded the outcome of the recently concluded All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja.

He however said he aspired for the position of Deputy National Chairman, North alongside Senator Abubakar Kyari to represent the 19 Northern States subsequently stepping down for him in the interest of the party.

According to him, he didn’t step down for Comrade Mustapha Salihu who is the consensus Vice national Chairman representing the North East Zone, which is mainly 6 states as earlier reported

Sunny was the first to declare his interest to contest the National Chairman of APC 21 months ago but when the position was zoned to the North Central he decided to contest for the office of the deputy national Chairman, the highest position zoned to the North East.

Sunny who is the Jagaban Jimeta, Yola North Local Government , Adamawa state said he was the most qualified in terms of my political history and experience and his antecedent as the Nigerian candidate, a bridge not a bridge builder whose emergence would have brought about peace in the whole nation but all agreed to tour the path of the Party’s decision.

A reason he stepped down for Senator Abubakar Kyari In the interest of peace in the Nation in general and North East Zone particularly, he accepted the decision of Zonal leaders, after a meeting with the Senate President, Governors, Senators, and other leaders at the Senate President’s Guest House.

“When the position was zoned to the North Central, I made my intention to contest for the position of Deputy National Chairman immediately, but it, however, turns out with pressure to step down for Kyari which I have done that with good faith and I accepted the outcome in the interest of our party and the unity of the nation,” Sunny said
