The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fiercely condemned the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for its controversial statement criticizing the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away last week. In a scathing response, the APC described the ADC’s remarks as “spooky,” “unconscionable,” and a reflection of the party’s “duplicity and insensitivity” during a time of national mourning.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, the ADC accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of exploiting Buhari’s death for political gains, calling the dignified state burial an act of political opportunism. The APC, in a press statement issued today, dismissed these claims as “mindless” and “beyond the pale,” accusing the ADC of lacking empathy and understanding of customary state practices.
“What would the ADC have had President Tinubu do? Deny the late President Buhari the honour of a befitting state burial? Withhold empathy and support for the bereaved former first family?” the APC questioned, labeling the ADC a “party of political dregs” chasing attention while sinking into “quicksand of ignominy.”

The APC highlighted Buhari’s legacy as a soldier, former military Head of State, and two-term democratically elected President, emphasizing his contributions to Nigeria.
The party praised President Tinubu for demonstrating compassion, patriotism, and leadership by overseeing the burial and honoring his predecessor, a close political associate.
The statement further cautioned Nigerians to be wary of the ADC, describing its leaders as “political marauders” who politicized a solemn moment of national grief.
“The ADC’s reference to heartfelt gestures as ‘exploitation’ falls far outside justifiable opposition politics,” the APC stated, accusing the party of allowing desperation for power to erode its humanity.

As Nigeria continues to mourn the loss of former President Buhari, the APC called for unity and empathy, urging citizens to support the late President’s grieving family and reject divisive rhetoric.
