Nigeria’s Senate is demanding an apology from Libya over the shocking mistreatment of the Super Eagles football team. The team endured a harrowing experience in Libya, where they were stranded at an airport for over 14 hours, sparking widespread outrage.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio strongly condemned the incident, calling for a thorough probe and penalties against Libya. Senator Ismaila Kawu also denounced the Libyan authorities’ actions, pointing out that their behavior not only put the players’ lives at risk but also compromised the safety of other delegation members.

The Nigerian government is now urging Libya to take responsibility for their actions, with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed to address the negative diplomatic implications of this incident with the Libyan government.
This development comes as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the Nigeria vs. Libya match from the AFCON qualifier schedule amid the controversy.
