The Arewa Professionals Forum has issued a strong warning to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to desist from what it describes as “political persecution” of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

In a statement signed by Abraham Atawodi, Hassan Galadima, and Ambassador Onoja, the group commended Bello’s eight-year tenure, citing unprecedented infrastructural development, quality education, free healthcare, and women and youth empowerment programs.

“We urge the EFCC to ensure fairness and justice in its fight against corruption and adhere to the rule of law,” the statement read. “Bello’s achievements are a testament to his commitment to good governance, and the people of Kogi state can attest to his positive impact.”

The EFCC has been investigating Bello for alleged money laundering and corruption, with charges totaling N80.2 billion. However, the Arewa Professionals Forum believes the EFCC’s actions are politically motivated.
“We stand by this illustrious son of Kogi and warn his hidden political persecutors to leave Yahaya Bello alone,” the statement concluded. “We appeal to the EFCC to refrain from being used as a tool for political fights by some enemies of Nigeria’s progress.”

The EFCC has maintained its stance on prosecuting corruption cases, regardless of political affiliations. The commission’s spokesperson emphasized ensuring accountability and transparency in governance. The case against Bello is ongoing.
