The Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) at the weekend rose from their stakeholders meeting in Kaduna with a call on those involved in the controversy surrounding the dispute between Hausa traders and the Enugu State Government to look for an amicable solution out of the crisis.
This is as the forum also task other Nigerians not to politicize the problem, but instead work to ensure that all parties get justice at the end of the day.
A statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna after the meeting and signed by the National President of AYF, Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu said, “The meeting called on stakeholders not to politicize the impasse between the Hausa traders in Enugu state and the state government as the issues are being resolved amicably.
“The Forum which also met with some stakeholders from Enugu state, assured that the main issue concerning the artisan market was between the traders and an individual who is the owner of the land in dispute.
“The artisan market impasse has nothing to do with the state. But the Executive Governor of the state Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as the chief security officer of the state has waded into the matter to ensure there is peace, unity and harmony between all those involved in the issue. ”
AYF also said that “We were also informed that the said piece of land belong to the particular individual who has gone to court over the disagreements and had gotten a court judgment in his favour.
“However a meeting between the stakeholders including representatives of the traders and security agencies are ongoing to resolve the matter amicably. We are therefore calling on all those involved to maintain the peace so that all concerned can carry on with their daily activities. ”
The youths also accused some persons of compounding the issue, saying “Some of those that are amplifying the problem are doing so for their own selfish motives and trying to play politics with the business interest of other Nigerians.
“It was because of these that we called on the Executive Governor of Enugu State to continue with his peace moves aimed at the amicable resolutions of the issue. The governor we know is a peace loving individual and we appreciate his peace efforts in making sure that the matter is put to bed.
“We also called on the Hausa community in Enugu state, especially the traders at the artisan market to embrace dialogue as a panacea towards setting issues.” the statement said.
