Armed men Attack on Taraba-Benue Border Claims Eight Lives

At least eight farmers were killed in a brutal attack by suspected armed Hersdmen in Chinku community, near the Taraba-Benue border, in Wukari Local Government Area. The assailants, wielding firearms and machetes, targeted individuals working on their farms, leaving a trail of devastation.

All victims, of Tiv ethnicity, were either shot or hacked to death

Security personnel deployed to the scene recovered the bodies of the victims, identified as Jonathan Ordonga, Joseph Torsev Yagba, Aondolumun Torsev Yagba, Torkulugh Apirgwa, Orfega Atuku, Orshoja Kuramga, Tersugh Mbaaiiga, and Shater Buchi. All victims, of Tiv ethnicity, were either shot or hacked to death. Their bodies were taken to Iorna Clinic in Jootar, Ukum LGA of Benue State, where they were confirmed dead and released to their families for burial.

In response, authorities summoned a leader of Fulani community in Chinku to an emergency meeting at the Wukari Local Government Secretariat. He was directed to help identify the perpetrators and warned against any acts of vigilantism within his community.

The attack has heightened tensions in the region, with calls for swift justice and enhanced security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
