Adamawa State University, Mubi (ADSU) has announced its resumption date, after several months of a strike by lecturers of the institution that led to the crippling of academic activities of the school.
This is contained in an internal memorandum sent to all staff and students of the institution, and also made available to newsmen.
“All staff and students are hereby informed that the University will reopen for normal activities on Monday, March 2oth, 2017,” the memo says.
It adds: “Students are to note the following for compliance: Monday, March 2oth: Resumption for new Students; Monday. March 27th, 2017 resumption for continuing Student”.
The statement was signed by Hassan Tanko, the registrar of the university.
The school had been closed since January 3rd 2017. The Adamawa State Government recently promised to take over the payment of outstanding workers’ salaries and looking into the funding profile of the University, prompting the resumption.
Meanwhile ASUU factional leader led by Dr. Bello express satisfaction on the outcome of the emergency senate of ADSU, Mubi to continue academic activities, the factional urged the State Government to keep to the promise of funding the University.
But the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Mubi led by the Song led exco, has vowed to continue with its strike until all key issues are resolved.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the release of the circular informing students of resumption, SSANU chairperson, Mary Bello, said nonacademic Staff would resume work from Monday 20thMarch 2017, while issues of funding are attended to.
Dr. Khalid said the Congress of ASUU remained on its earlier stance. He also said “ASUU congress was not consulted on some of the issue been brandish by the Song led Exco and at no point do we agree to the dissolution of the management because we lack such powers and ASUU under my watch remain apolitical.
He said “the Congress had agreed to wait the visitation panel reports and other welfare issues the Visitor promised to implement, I urged all ASUU members to resume duty from next week Monday Khalid said”.
