Leaders and ministers of churches, on Monday, warned that Nigeria’s future is bleak with the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The church leaders have, therefore, appealed to the various unions in the nation’s universities to quickly resolve contending issues in the interest of the students.
Spokesperson of the clerics under the aegis of the Fellowship of Leaders and Ministers of Bible-believing Churches, Pastor Abel Aiyedogbon, told newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, on Monday, that the future of Nigeria may be jeopardised if the youths are not prepared for expected roles.
He said, “As a body and stakeholders to the destinies of our children, we appeal to the parties concerned, especially the Federal Government to quickly resolve the ASUU crisis.
“The students involved are the future leaders of our nation and if they are not prepared for such roles as expected, the future of our country may be in jeopardy.
“Today is the womb of tomorrow, what we do with our nation today will determine how strong the country will be tomorrow. The Nigeria of tomorrow is certainly going to be what the ruling class of today organises it to be.”
The church leaders and ministers noted that the prolonged ASUU strike had shown insensitivity on part of the nation’s policymakers and all the stakeholders involved.
They added that the plight of university students who have been at the receiving end over the years must be considered.
