Residents of Ungwan Bulus, Sabon Tasha, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have embarked on a weekly self help exercise to improve the condition of the major road leading into the community, with appeals to the local and state governments to come to their aid.
The exercise which entered its fourth week on Saturday October 31, saw several youth and middle aged men in their numbers digging drainages and filling up unmotorable area in the community, as observed by our correspondent who stumbled upon them.
In an interview with our correspondent, Youth Leader Ungwan Bulus, Francis Musa popularly known as Sammy, lamented that residents go through untold hardship as a result of the bad roads.
“We are trying to coordinate our activities this is the first major project we are embarking on.
“We have been doing this every Saturday from 6am to 12 noon. We start digging Drainages, removing the laterite and filling the roads. The roads are not motorable.
“Most of those in the community have parked their cars elsewhere, they go there pick cars go to work, come back park there again before finding ways to their houses,” he said.
Speaking further, he pointed out that there has been no intervention from corporate organisations or government so far, stressing that it has been community efforts.
“We are yet to write to government but we are appealing to the government at state and local government levels to intervene.
“We will also try and meet the councillor of Sabon Tasha Ward to convey our plight to the LGA,” he informed.
