The incident took place on Saturday, January 4, at approximately 8:00 p.m. along the Farin Ruwa–Wasagu road. Sources report that a group of unknown gunmen stormed the community through the Dansadau district, triggering a rapid response from security forces.

Joint operatives, comprising troops from Operation FANSAN YANMA, police personnel, members of the Civilian Protection Group, and local vigilantes, mobilized to protect residents and repel the attackers. However, the bandits laid an ambush, overpowering the team in the ensuing clash.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and an Inspector, both attached to the Department of Operations (DOPS), were abducted by the gunmen. Their serviceable rifles were also seized during the attack. The officers’ current whereabouts remain unknown.

Security sources confirmed that an anti-kidnapping squad has been deployed to the area, with intensive efforts underway to trace and rescue the abducted officers.

This latest incident underscores the persistent threat posed by banditry in Zamfara and other northwestern states, where armed groups frequently target communities, travelers, and security personnel.

Authorities continue to appeal for public cooperation in providing intelligence to combat the menace.
