Suspected bandits attacked Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State last night, setting the Emir’s palace ablaze and abducting dozens of residents, including the Emir’s wives and children.

According to eyewitnesses, the heavily armed assailants stormed the community late Sunday night and carried out the operation for over four hours without any resistance. They fired sporadically as they moved through the area, targeting the Emir’s palace, which was completely burnt down during the assault.
Residents described the attack as sudden and terrifying, with gunmen breaking into homes and seizing people, including women and children. The total number of abducted victims is still being compiled, but sources say dozens were taken away.
Security forces are said to have launched efforts to track the bandits and rescue the victims. However, no official statement has been issued by the Kwara State Police Command or the state government as at the time of this report.
The incident has sparked fresh fears over the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kwara State.
