BIG WIN! TGNEWS’ Asile, Plateau State Correspondent, Secures Seat as NAWOJ Elects New Executives

The National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State Council, has elected a new executive committee to lead the association for the next three years.

The election, held on Wednesday at the NUJ Secretariat in Jos, followed the expiration of the six-year tenure of the outgoing administration led by Mrs. Nene Dung of the Plateau Radio Television Corporation (PRTVC) chapel.

Mrs. Grace Akwe Gotip of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) chapel emerged as the new NAWOJ chairperson, succeeding Mrs. Dung.

The election, overseen by the Chairman of the Plateau NAWOJ 2025 Elections and Credentials Committee, Mrs. Lucy Chindaba, saw all seven positions filled unopposed. Mrs. Chindaba declared the candidates “hereby returned elected” during the affirmation exercise.

The newly elected executives include Yvonne Ishola (PPC chapel) as Vice Chairperson, Mwuese Praise Adem (Highland FM) as Secretary, Esther Andrew (State Information chapel) as Assistant Secretary, Jembyen Zitta (PRTVC chapel) as Treasurer, Patience Aliyu (Correspondents’ chapel) as Financial Secretary, and Asile Emmanuel Abel (Correspondents’ chapel), a correspondent for TGNEWS, as Auditor.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, NAWOJ Vice President for Zone D (North Central), Chizoba Ogbechi, urged the new executives to surpass the achievements of their predecessors while fostering inclusivity.

Similarly, NUJ Plateau State Council Chairman, Mrs. Ayuku Pwaspo, congratulated the team and encouraged them to amplify their advocacy on gender-based issues, particularly those affecting women and children in Plateau State.

She pledged to prioritize capacity building, networking, and partnerships to enhance members’ welfare

In her acceptance speech, the newly elected NAWOJ Chairperson, Grace Akwe Gotip, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her leadership. She pledged to prioritize capacity building, networking, and partnerships to enhance members’ welfare.

“We are aware of the challenges that lie ahead, but together we can navigate and excel,” Gotip said, emphasizing her commitment to collaboration and open-door leadership.

The outgoing chairperson, Mrs. Nene Dung, commended the support of members, zonal, and national leaders during her tenure and called for the same backing for the new administration.

The election marks a new chapter for NAWOJ in Plateau State, with the incoming executives poised to advance the association’s mission of promoting gender equality and journalistic excellence.
