The Leadership Group,a conglomerate which have Leadership Newspaper that’s having branches all over the country,it turned up to be a household name in the print media with a steady daily routine production in every News stand in the major cities and towns of Nigeria.
Its 2016 Leadership Award spotted the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla Bindow who is consider to have a watershed achievements within the span of one year and half.
Our Correspondent in Yola,Tom Garba who has being following the activities of the Governor,seek the view of the residents of Yola and Jimeta, the major towns in the state over the recent award given to him by the Leadership Newspaper.
This is how it goes :
A Popularly meat seller (Suya), who is widely known as Babanna Palace said with what Governor Bindow is doing to the people of Adamawa State he deserve more awards both local and international scenes. His work should have fetch him an international awards not even in Africa.
According to him he has been in Jimeta (State capital) for donkey years, even the street which is residing and making his meat selling, attracting both the highly and lowly people of the state, trooping in on daily basis to buy their meat was seriously delipidated not until Bindow surfaces that they are feeling a touch of good leadership.
Babanna stated that the street is wearing a beautiful look with modern street lights on it,as against how it previous look with much dust result to advance effects of dirtying their products,houses but now the new road is making him happy.
“My friend how I wish this award is coming from the palace of the Queen of England or American for this Messiah who is generally Beautifying our state.Mu Dai kam Alhamdullila, sai Allah San barka. Meaning they are most grateful to God for what the Governor is doing in the state. I know there is going to be many awards coming to him because is going to be doing much more what he has already done “. Babanna said
A strong supporter of the Governor and a Member of All Progressives Congress ( APC ),Hon. Hussaini Har revealed that this kind of award has never been given to any past Leaders ever held the affairs of the state, this is first of its kind type of award and the organisation rightly gave it to a working Governor who even deserve more than the award . With this,it is just a feather of grace bestowed on him to do more work for the people of Adamawa state.
A Teacher with one of the primary school in state capital (Jimeta), who prefers to be anonymous praises the developmental efforts of the Governor in roads infrastructures but equally lamented how workers at the Local Governments are facing untold hardship as a result of non salaries payments for many months.
He only beg and pray to God to touch the heart of the Governor to settle all outstanding salaries, arrears and gratuity of the civil servants as “there is no point on working only on roads projects and people walking on the roads with hungry stomach.”
A residence of a settlement in Yola bye pass, Mrs Hanatu Kefas narrated that: “Bindow is truly working, but his work is only in some selected areas, settlements like ours that we are prone to flooding for every rainy season we have been neglected.”
“I just pray before this coming rainy season our Governor will remember us in this area so that we will not suffer lost as we use experienced it. ” She said
After all efforts were made to speak to any of the officials of People’s Democracy Party (PDP) failed, a member of the Party (PDP), Hon. Ishaya K Boyi who spoke on his own personal opinion said honour should be given to who deserves it, and as matter of fact base on what is going on in the state Senator Bindow is indeed trying his best even with the little resources available in his hand.
“Politics aside best on my own opinion Bindow is working, and honour should be given to who deserve it. With the recession one wonder where he gets the money to embarks on huge projects, I really congratulate him. ” Boyi said
A social media commentator, comrade Nurrudeen Kama on his own personal view said he is truly been vindicated and the award is not coming to him as a surprise. As according to him he traveled to so many states there is not much records of achievements in comparison to what Bindow is doing.
Nurudeen juxtaposed the rate of development is not quite much difference between those in the up town areas (Commissioner’s quarters and Clark’s quarters) knowing the fact that since earlier 90s that a seemingly tarred road was constructed in Clark’s quarters latter characterise with dead traps gallops until the coming of Bindow that a road well constructed with street lights was done in the area.
The organising secretary of PDP in Mayo Belwa LGA of the State, Mr Obadiah Dogo said the road infrastructure and how the Governor Network the state capital with road is already boosting the social-economy activities in the state and is a big kudos to him in that regard and he truly merited the award. But scored him low in other sectors like Health and Education that according to him the sector are being neglected even with the state of emergency imposed in the two sectors.
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) secretary of the state’s chapter,Dr John Luka who also spoke on personal ground aired out that, Leadership Newspaper as an organization is one of the credible newspaper in the country which stand on the credence of justice to God and humanity have their selection criteria which it can’t not be bought with money or influence. John equally goes with the opinions of many that the Governor truly deserve the award.
