Binos Blasts APC, Says Joining Ruling Party Would Betray Southern Adamawa

Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe has strongly rejected the idea of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that doing so would amount to betraying the people of Southern Adamawa.

The senator, who represents Adamawa South Senatorial District, made the declaration on Tuesday during his formal announcement to seek re-election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Senator Yaroe said the continued neglect of Southern Adamawa by the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left him with “nothing to campaign for” if he joins the APC.

He pointed to the deplorable condition of federal roads in the zone and the recent rejection of his bill to establish the Federal University of Education (FUE), Numan, as clear evidence of this neglect.

The lawmaker revealed he had invested significant time, political capital, and resources into the university bill over several years. He stated that he would have considered defecting to the ruling party only if it guaranteed presidential assent to the bill.

“If they had told me that joining APC would guarantee the passage of the Federal University of Education Numan bill, I would have risked my political future for the interest of my people,” he said.

“But after everything we did at the Senate, the bill was denied assent. How then do I go to my people and campaign for APC? There is practically nothing to show them.”

Southern Adamawa, which comprises nine local government areas, has remained one of the most neglected zones in the country, according to the senator.

Yaroe disclosed that he was among 15 senators who resisted intense pressure to defect to the APC. He also joined a Senate walkout against constitutional amendments that sought to stop electronic transmission of election results.

“I will not be part of history that helped turn Nigeria into a one-party state,” he declared. “Senatorial representation is a trust. I cannot betray the people who elected me simply to protect my political interest.”

The senator further revealed that Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had called a meeting of senators, House members, state lawmakers, and other stakeholders where plans to align with the APC were discussed. He said he was the only one who rejected the move.

“Everybody agreed to join APC. I was the only one who said no because I cannot defend the suffering and neglect of Southern Adamawa before my people,” he stated.

Senator Binos called on Nigerians opposed to the APC administration to support the ADC in the 2027 general elections, warning that the country’s democracy risks sliding into a one-party system.

Also speaking at the event, Adamawa State ADC Secretary Pwamaddi Shagnah commended Senator Yaroe for standing firm against pressure. He warned that if the ADC is not on the ballot in 2027, “then democracy has effectively died in Nigeria.”

Director-General of the Binos Campaign Organisation, Katawan Boniface, described the senator as a principled leader who placed the interest of his constituents above personal political gain.

Party supporters at the event unanimously endorsed Binos’ re-election bid and vowed to continue pushing for the establishment of the Federal University of Education in Numan and better federal infrastructure for Southern Adamawa.
