The chairman House committee on Internally Displayed Persons IDPs in the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Hassan Mamman Barguma said lack of electric transformer and water at the Malkohi IDP camp has put the lives of the inhabitants in danger.
The committee Chairman, who is the member representing Hong constituency, disclosed this in a Telephone interview with ABC Reporter said lack light during the night hours at the camp can give snakes and other reptiles an opportunity to inflict injuries on the IDPs.
He however, stated that the committee had written to the appropriate quarters on the need to install a transformer at the camp to make life meaningful to the IDPs during the night hours.
The lawmaker added that the committee had advised the Executive arm that something tangible must be done on the stagnant water within the camp to forestall any outbreak of diseases.
On the relief materials, he said the “National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, International Committee on Red Cross ICR, Nigerian Air force, Lagos state government, Indimi, Dangote and other individuals have assisted the IDPs with relief materials”, but faulted the mode of distribution.
He revealed that National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has in stock relief materials that can cater for the IDPs in the state for the next three months and appealed to philanthropists, companies and organizations to assist towards the medication of the IDPs.
Barguma said the appeal became imperative since funding being received by International Committee on Red Cross ICR for treatment of IDPs has stop.
