Adamawa Governing Board of the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has urged the state government to fence the state’s NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp as 2,300 corps members begin their orientation under Batch `C’.
The Chairman of the Board, Mr Suleiman Zumo, made the call during the opening of the 2018 Batch `C’ orientation held in Damare in Girei Local Government Area on Thursday.
Zumo said the perimeter fencing at the camp would ensure maximum security for the corps member deployed to serve in the state.
“The Board also observed the deplorable condition of the feeder road that leads to the camp is an eyesore to our dear state and need to be addressed, ” Zumo said.
Earlier, Malam Abubakar Muhammad, the Coordinator of NYSC in the state, lauded the attitude the corps members saying that the youth had exhibited tolerance in living with one another and worked together in harmony.
He assured the corps members that the management of NYSC has put everything in place including adequate provision of personnel and essential services to make them comfortable during their stay in the camp.
In his remarks, Gov. Muhammadu Bindow of Adamawa described the NYSC as “ the only practical event” bringing young and future leaders of Nigeria together as one family.
Bindow, who was represented by the state Deputy Governor, Mr Martins Babale, noted the return of peace in the state.
The governor, however, promised to look at the challenges facing the orientation camp including fencing and rehabilitating the deplorable roads while announcing the donation of two cows and 50 bags of rice to the corps members.
