Boko Haram Attack in Borno Village Claims Lives of Captain, Corporal

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched a deadly assault on Izge village in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, targeting a military formation and resulting in the deaths of soldiers, while also suffering significant losses among their ranks.

According to Tgnews, the attack occurred around 1 a.m. on Sunday when the terrorists stormed the military base in Izge. A security source disclosed, “A Captain and a Corporal were among those who lost their lives, but the encounter also left many insurgents dead.”

The Executive Chairman of Gwoza, Hon. Abba Kawu Idrissa Timta, confirmed the incident but noted that he was still awaiting detailed reports on casualties on both sides. “However, a significant number of terrorists were neutralized during the clash,” he added.

Local sources recounted that a large group of attackers, arriving on motorcycles, initiated the assault by firing a Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) at the military position. “The terrorists initially overwhelmed the soldiers, but local hunters and vigilantes joined forces with the troops, turning the tide against the attackers,” a resident explained.

“It was a fierce battle, yet the troops from the Izge platoon of Operation Hadin Kai, supported by the community, stood their ground. Many terrorists were killed, and others fled, abandoning their motorcycles.”

The source further noted that soldiers, hunters, and determined residents were pursuing the retreating insurgents into the Sambisa Forest.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South), a vocal critic of Boko Haram’s activities in the region, expressed concern over the latest attack. He urged the federal government to deploy advanced surveillance technology to bolster security forces in their fight against terrorism.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, for comment were unsuccessful as his phone line was unavailable.

This incident follows similar attacks two weeks prior, when Boko Haram targeted military formations in Wajirko and Wulgo, located in Damboa and Gamboru Ngala Local Government Areas of Borno State.
