BREAKING: Adamawa Govt Drags ADC Governorship Candidate Omar Suleiman to Court Over Alleged Poster Defacement

The Adamawa State Government has initiated criminal proceedings against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Hon. Omar Suleiman, over allegations of violating environmental regulations by pasting campaign posters on public infrastructure in Yola.

Court documents obtained by TGNEWS on Monday show that the case was filed before Chief Magistrate Court No. 2, Yola, through a direct criminal complaint brought by the Ministry of Environment, the Adamawa State Urban Planning Board, and the Attorney-General of Adamawa State.

According to the complaint dated July 6, 2026, the government accused Suleiman of defying an Executive Order issued by the state government prohibiting the placement of billboards, posters, and outdoor advertisements on public buildings, overhead bridges, flyovers, and other public facilities.

The complainants alleged that despite being aware of the directive, the ADC governorship hopeful proceeded to paste campaign posters on the Unity Flyover in Jimeta-Yola, an action authorities described as environmental defacement and a violation of state regulations.

The court filing stated that the defendant’s actions amounted to a willful failure to comply with a lawful requirement issued by authorized officers, contrary to provisions of the Environmental Protection Agency Law, Cap 51, Laws of Adamawa State, 1997.

In the suit, the government is seeking the issuance of criminal summons against Suleiman and urging the court to take cognizance of the alleged offence.

The complaint was signed by Konleganyiga U.J. Esq., Director, and Salihu Mohammed Esq., Senior State Counsel I, both of the Adamawa State Ministry of Justice.

The development marks a fresh twist in the state’s efforts to enforce environmental and urban planning regulations amid increasing political activities ahead of future elections.

As of the time of filing this report, Hon. Omar Suleiman had not publicly responded to the allegations contained in the court documents.

The case is expected to attract significant public and political attention as legal proceedings commence in Yola.
