A group under the auspices of Northern Democratic Forum( NDF) has questioned the Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) to name its choice for the 2023 presidency and “stop playing the ostrich”.
Chairman of the NDF, Dr. Jibril Tafida who handed down the query in a media statement on Monday evening, expressed shock at the silence of the Arewa elders in the ACF, following the endorsement of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as presidential candidate by the Afenifere at the weekend.
The NDF said it was surprised that “the Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) could not even sit and decide the 2023 presidential candidate that it is supporting as elders of the North, who have no reason to keep silent in the face of this crucial moment of decision”.
The NDF, in the statement, noted that “this is the worst time in the political history of the North, where a respected of group of elders under the Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF) could not take a definite stand on behalf of the region, like Afenifere did with Tinubu.
“We are deeply disturbed, if not disappointed, by the inaction of our leaders in the ACF. This is unacceptable and democratically destabilizing for the North and the youth as leaders of tomorrow now find this development quite discomforting”, said the NDF.
The group called on “all men and women of good conscience in the North to mount sufficient pressure on the ACF leadership to tell the world where the North stands because the presidential elections is months away, and we don’t have time to waste”.
Meanwhile, the Igbo socio-cultural organization has endorsed Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi. “As we speak, about 18 governors from the North and South, cutting across party lines, are behind the scenes putting up structures for Obi to be the winner of the 2023 presidential election”, Ohanaeze noted in a media statement signed by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, last Wednesday..
