Breaking: Boko Haram insurgents attack Shiites’ school in Yobe, shoot dead students

Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, in the early hours of Friday, killed students at Shiite-owned Faudiya School in Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Faudiya School belongs to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as the Shiites in Nigeria.

Sources said the Boko Haram fighters invaded Hausari quarters in Geidam LGA around 3:44am, on Friday to carry out the attack on the school.

The gunmen were said to have struck when the students were all asleep.

The source said, “The incident occurred at around 3:44 am, when the gunmen invaded Faudiya School a well known Shiite school in Geidam.

“They (gunmen) attacked the school when these youth were asleep and brought them outside and shot them dead.

“There is tension and concern in the town after this incident. People are terrified over this unfortunate incident.”

It was also gathered from some vigilante operatives that three members of the Shiite sect were killed while one other was seriously injured.

“We don’t know who they (gunmen) are but, all we knew is that they killed three students in the school. One person who tried to escape during the incident was injured and he has been hospitalized,” He said.

Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident. He however declined to give details.
