BREAKING: Borno State Governor Unveils Plan to Rebuild NYSC Orientation Camp

In a significant move to support the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has announced plans to rebuild and expand the permanent orientation camp in the state. This development comes after the NYSC orientation camp resumed in the state in 2023, following a 12-year suspension due to the Boko Haram insurgency. Currently, the camp is operating from a temporary site at the Umar Mustapha Elkanemi Arabic School.

Governor Zulum made the announcement during a courtesy visit by the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, and his management team at the Government House in Maiduguri. The governor emphasized the need to fast-track the construction of a permanent site to accommodate more corps members, citing the potential need for the school to reclaim its space.

He also commended the contributions of medical corps members in the state and highlighted the importance of graduates in science-related fields to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education in secondary schools.

The Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, praised the Borno State Government for its unwavering support of the scheme, noting that corps members are in good hands. He urged corps members to remain in Borno and contribute to the state’s development, in appreciation of the government’s continuous support. With a total of 991 corps members from 2024 Batch C Stream 2 currently undergoing orientation in the state, this move is expected to have a positive impact on the NYSC program and the state’s development.
