BREAKING: Chief Vunobolki Resigns from APC, Cites Lack of Transparency, Imposed Candidates in Adamawa

In a stunning political reversal just weeks after joining the party, prominent Adamawa politician and governorship aspirant Chief Maurice Vunobolki, PhD, FCA, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party and state government of abandoning assurances of equity, fairness, and internal democracy.

Vunobolki, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside supporters across Adamawa’s 21 Local Government Areas and formally joined the APC on February 23, 2026, made the announcement in a strongly worded press statement released on Tuesday.

In the statement, he expressed deep disappointment over recent developments, claiming that initial assurances from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri regarding a level playing field for all aspirants had been violated.

He pointed to the manipulation of a committee set up for party congresses, alleged irregularities in membership registrations using citizens’ National Identification Numbers (NIN) without consent, and a pattern of favouring certain aspirants ahead of primaries.

“Developments both on the part of the state government and the party in the state indicate a complete departure from the agreed terms of a transparent process,” Vunobolki stated.

He drew parallels to his 2019 experience in the APC, where he claimed to have spent ₦20 million on nomination forms for the Southern Senatorial seat, only for the process to be allegedly altered in favour of incumbent senators.

The resignation, effective Monday, April 13, 2026, comes amid heightened political realignments in Adamawa, following Governor Fintiri’s own recent move from the PDP to the APC earlier this year.

Vunobolki had been one of the early declarants for the 2027 governorship race under the APC banner.

Vunobolki urged his supporters across the state to withdraw their membership from the APC and await further guidance on the group’s next political platform.

He emphasized his commitment to democratic principles, stating: “Political power must be rooted in the will of the people, not imposed through manipulation.”

“Democracy can only thrive where internal democratic mechanisms are respected,” he added, calling on other aspirants who value transparency to “make hay while the sun still shines” for the progress of Adamawa State.

The development is expected to significantly impact the unfolding 2027 governorship contest in Adamawa, where political loyalties have been shifting rapidly.

Vunobolki, a respected figure with a background in finance and development, reassured his loyal base to remain calm and united as he charts a new course.

This resignation marks another twist in Adamawa’s volatile political landscape and could trigger further defections or realignments ahead of future elections.

Chief Maurice Vunobolki ended the statement with a reaffirmation of faith: “True leadership and promotion come from God,” and extended appreciation to his supporters for their patience and resilience.
