BREAKING: DIG Frank Mba Voluntarily Retires from Nigeria Police Force After 34 Years of Meritorious Service

Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Frank Mba has voluntarily retired from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) after a distinguished career spanning 34 years.

The retirement, confirmed recently, follows the appointment of AIG Olatunji Rilwan Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. DIG Mba, who served as the DIG in charge of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, joined the Force in May 1992 as a cadet officer and rose steadily through the ranks with notable promotions and assignments.

Throughout his service, DIG Mba was widely recognized for his professionalism, eloquence, and contributions to public communication. He served three times as the National Public Relations Officer (Force PRO) of the Nigeria Police Force, earning praise for redefining police-media engagement and embodying the principle that “the Police is your friend.”

His earlier roles included spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, and he was decorated with a UN Medal for his service with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (2006–2007).

The retirement aligns with established protocols in the NPF, where senior officers often step aside during major leadership transitions to maintain hierarchy and operational stability.

Recent reports indicate that DIG Mba’s decision was voluntary, coinciding with the screening of several Assistant Inspectors-General for potential elevation to DIG ranks by the Police Service Commission (PSC) to support the new IGP’s administration.

Tributes have poured in from various quarters, with admirers highlighting his integrity, charisma, impeccable dress sense, and dedication to service. Many describe his exit as marking the end of an era for articulate and principled policing in Nigeria.

DIG Frank Mba’s career trajectory included key promotions: Assistant Superintendent of Police (1999), Deputy Superintendent (2003), Superintendent (2008), Chief Superintendent (2012), Assistant Commissioner (2014), Deputy Commissioner (2018), Commissioner (2020), Assistant Inspector-General (2023), and ultimately Deputy Inspector-General in June 2023.

As he bows out, the Nigeria Police Force and the nation acknowledge his immense contributions to training, development, and public trust in law enforcement. Wishes for a fulfilling post-service life have been extended to the respected officer.
