Breaking: Fire Breaks Out at Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Building in Abuja

Emergency responders from the Federal Fire Service (FFS) have successfully contained a fire incident at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) building within the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja.

The blaze, which erupted this morning in a section of the building (reportedly Block C), caused panic among workers and prompted an immediate evacuation in the affected area. Firefighters were quickly deployed to the scene and brought the situation under control, preventing further spread.

In an official press statement, the Federal Fire Service confirmed: “The Federal Fire Service has responded to a fire incident at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation building in Abuja. The situation is under control, and Nigerians are assured that there is no cause for alarm.”

Eyewitness videos circulating on social media show smoke billowing from parts of the complex, with emergency teams actively tackling the flames. No casualties have been reported so far, though the extent of damage to property and the cause of the fire remain under investigation.

The OHCSF building is a key administrative hub in the Federal Secretariat, Phase II, housing critical civil service operations. This is not the first fire-related incident in the complex; a similar event in 2023 affected utility rooms in Block C due to an electrical explosion.

Authorities have urged calm as operations resume in unaffected sections, with further updates expected from relevant agencies on the incident’s cause and any preventive measures. The prompt response highlights ongoing efforts to enhance fire safety in federal buildings amid recurring incidents in Abuja.
